Animal Cruelty
We exploit animals in a variety of ways. Although we would like to believe that the animals that end up on our plates and as part of our clothing are treated with respect and killed quickly and humanely, unfortunately that is not the case. When living beings become a source of profit, they immediately lose their individuality and become a product which must be processed as quickly, efficiently, and profitably as possible. And this is exactly what has happened in the meat, fish, dairy, egg, skin, entertainment, and animal testing industries.
The videos below and on the pages linked here document the abuse and complete disregard for suffering that is common practice in these industries. It is important to bear witness to the abuse that innocent individuals suffer every single day of their lives, particularly if you participate in inflicting the suffering financially (by purchasing animal products and otherwise financially supporting animal exploitation). Some of this footage is difficult to see, but please watch.
Abuse aside, we must ask ourselves whether we want to participate in killing living, breathing, feeling, suffering beings for our pleasure. In the end, there is no pleasure worth the suffering of another. Nothing tastes as good as compassion feels, but as you'll learn from my How To page, vegan food tastes just as good as food containing animal products!
